Hard and compact stool makes bowel movements difficult and painful.
2. Inserting the Micro-Enema
The MICROLAX solution is inserted. A wetting agent ensures that the surface of the hard stool is softened.
3. Stool Softening
This creates optimum conditions for the active ingredients to act on the hardened stool releasing the water bound in it. This makes the stool soft and flexible.
4. Constipation Relief
With the stool now softened, its volume increases and activates the receptors in the intestinal wall, which give the signal for excretion. The result can be normal, untroubled bowel evacuation.
How MICROLAX® Works
MICROLAX® helps to relieve constipation in as fast as 5 to 20 minutes with a good level of control. The 5 mL micro-enema can be inserted gently into the rectum and its use is easy, and hygienic. The active ingredients sodium citrate, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate and sorbitol work together to release the bound water in the stool, and loosen it up. Predictable relief can be obtained usually within 5 to 20 minutes.
The action of the gel-like contents of the micro-enema is local and physical. It has no direct effect on the bowel or its reflex mechanism. There is a low risk for dependence.
